That is a set back for the trail. Won’t find me on that section. OTH, I guess you could say the theives didn’t get much except a bike you readily by at Dick’s or Sports Authority

Mark,
I wouldn’t avoid that section all together. I’ve been through there dozens of times. I think the nice weather and the opportunistic nature of these particular youths led to the assault. I see the potential for that energy to be channeled into legal activity. With their talent for ripping people off, I think these kids would make great politicians or hedge fund managers.

Does Cannondale make a cycling holster for a 9mm?

Mark,
They took more than my bike. They’ve robbed me of a bit of my faith in humankind. And this was only my second time on the trail.

Robert,
Don’t lose faith. You should definitely be shocked at your treatment at the hands of your fellow human beings, but try to apply your situation toward the greater affliction in our society. That is, the vast disparity of wealth within our own communities. With this done, you may see that it is not humankind that has lost your trust but rather the foundations of our economy, because any system that would allow one group of beings to dominate another is surely unjust and inhumane.

i’ve had kids mess with me in newhallville on the trail too, but i just flipped them off, told them to find something better to do with the days of their youth and pedaled my ass off. i totally support bill. being afraid of the youth, and believing that this is anything but a consequence of the socioeconomic classing and segregation that exists is ignorance in itself.

Assault and theft are inexcusable no matter the perpetrators’ socioeconomic status. I hope the trail becomes a safer place and Robert gets his bike back.
